Pros and Cons of Fashion Careers

Pros To A Fashion Career – Of course there are always going to be those people that were just born to do fashion, and they have a gift that is just amazing to watch. They have creativity and expression that simply can’t be stopped. There are some other reasons why people get into fashion though, like the following:

-There is always going to be a ton of variety in the workplace. You may be working on one project and then the next week work on a project that is completely different. You won’t have to worry about getting bored very often. It is an exciting job that offers plenty of variety.

-The work is usually going to be fast paced and fun. Most of the work environments that you will participate in while in the fashion industry are not going to be boring to say the least. It is an upbeat place where people come to get work done and unleash their creativity.

-A career in fashion is going to be financially awesome as well. There are plenty of people within the fashion community that earn more than $75,000 annually. There are also a variety of people that earn of six figures a year as well. Companies are willing to pay top dollar for excellent fashion employees.

-Travel often comes up as a benefit of being in the fashion industry. You never know when you might need to pick up and go to a show in the United States or across the ocean to another country that you have always wanted to visit.

-Last but not least, a job in the fashion world is a great way to let your self expression come to light. You get paid to be creative and think out of the box, which is not something that many people get paid for.

Cons To A Fashion Career Yes, there are cons to a fashion career, as hard as it is to believe. It is a great industry to be involved with, but there are definitely downsides, much as there is with just about any career. Here are a few that we came up with:

-The pay scale can be hard to predict at times. You may go through droughts where you are not able to get hired because you don’t have the right connections with the right people in the industry. Financial stability is not a strong point in the fashion industry.

-You should expect to work long hours in order to meet deadlines and hammer out the details of work that you have yet to finish. As long as the clients are able to set deadlines, you will have to meet them, and that can get kind of hectic at times.

-The demand and stress that a career in fashion brings with it can be overwhelming at times. It is not a job for the faint of heart. You will have to deal with criticism, deadlines from clients, and a variety of issues that will arise eventually.

-There is no easy way to say this, but most careers in fashion start at the bottom of the totem pole. You have to prove that you are worth promoting and you have to build up your reputation over time with solid work.

-Last but not least, there are going to be times when success may mean something completely different to you than it means to the next person in the fashion industry. It can get confusing and hard to deal with clients when you are not on the same page that they are.
